The Hambrick Foundation was proud to deliver a grant to support the art program at CCARC, a New Britain, Connecticut-based organization dedicated to providing services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). CCARC’s mission is to ensure that individuals with IDD experience a satisfying and fulfilling life by offering opportunities for personal growth, self-expression, and community involvement.
One very impactful aspect of CCARC’s programming is its art program, which has become a vital outlet for creativity and empowerment for its participants.
"The art program at CCARC offers individuals with IDD the chance to explore various artistic mediums, express their emotions, and discover their unique voices," said CCARC CEO Linda Iovanna. "This funding will allow us to increase the number of participants in our classes, expand the variety of class options to accommodate everyone in our programs, and encourage self-expression through various art mediums."
Participants have the opportunity to showcase their work for family, friends, and the wider community as it is displayed in local art galleries. The program concludes with an art show at CCARC, which Iovanna says is a source of great pride and joy for the participants, who take immense satisfaction in seeing their creations showcased and appreciated.
The impact of the art program extends beyond the joy of creation. One participant has begun exploring a micro-enterprise, selling the art she creates.
"The program has increased her confidence and the mediums she works with," Iovanna said. "Her success in growing her own business has encouraged us to develop an internship process so others can explore careers in art."
Iovanna is proud to continue to grow this amazing program and excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. With ongoing support, the art program will continue to inspire creativity, foster personal development, and bring joy to all who participate.
