School year begins with educational and therapeutic items for Beyond the Spectrum students

Writer: The Hambrick FoundationThe Hambrick Foundation

Students in Jessica Wetherson's class were welcomed back to school this August to a classroom with many new innovative tools to teach important life skills.

Wetherson, a special needs teacher at Sarasota's Beyond the Spectrum, received a THF grant in May. She said in her application that the items would focus on developing skills like how to cook simple meals, communication, sharing and taking turns. She added that it is important to provide her students with a "more comfortable and safe learning environment with various sensory items."

"The students are enjoying the variety of educational and therapeutic items tremendously," Wetherson said. "Our purchases of games, sensory items, therapeutic seating and communication technology have contributed to an amazing start to our school year."

The THF team is so proud and excited to see these kids thrive!
